Visionary Points come into play from this gameweek – here’s everything you need to know

It can be tempting to play it safe in Fantasy WSL. The Women’s Super League is a relatively small league, so it doesn’t take long to familiarise yourself with the players who consistently bring in points and build a team around them.

But if there’s one thing playing it safe won’t achieve, it’s winning the league. To beat out other managers, you need to find scoring opportunities that others won’t have, such as playing your bench boost or triple captain chips at the right time.

And this season, there’s another way to do that thanks to the addition of visionary points. Here’s everything you need to know about this new scoring opportunity.

What are visionary points?

‘Visionary points’ are a new set of points up for grabs for the 2024/25 season. They’re designed to award fantasy managers who take a risk on less popular or unrecognised talent.

We’re introducing visionary points because a big part of our ethos here at Fantasy WSL is growing fan engagement across the WSL as a whole, not just across the top few teams. There are plenty of talented players making a difference in the league who don’t have the same profile as the ‘top’ players, and we want to reward managers for taking the time to get to know them.

If a player meets the criteria for visionary points, an extra three points will be added to their gameweek score.

How are visionary points awarded?

Players who are owned by less than 2% of managers are eligible for visionary points, but not all players under this threshold receive the points.

To score visionary points, players have to make a meaningful contribution to a match. That means they have to make it onto the pitch and score one additional point outside the basic ‘minutes played’ points that players receive for playing 60 and 90 minutes. As a reminder, things that warrant points in Fantasy WSL include scoring goals, assisting goals, winning bonus points (more on that here), keeping a clean sheet, making a goal line clearance (another new addition for the 2024/25 season), saving a goal or saving a penalty. You can check out the post below for more information on the scoring process in Fantasy WSL.

Players can only score visionary points once in any gameweek, so you won’t get twice as many visionary points during a double gameweek (sorry).

How to tell if a player is eligible for visionary points

Players who are eligible for visionary points will get a special ‘visionary’ badge on their player profile in the app and on our website, so you can make an informed decision about who to pick for your squad. We may also spotlight them across our social media profiles, so keep your eyes peeled.

The players who are eligible for visionary points will be locked in at the start of the previous gameweek, based on their ownership at that point. That means you don’t need to worry about picking a visionary player only for their ownership to increase above the threshold before the gameweek gets underway – if a player has a visionary badge when you’re selecting your team for the upcoming gameweek, they will be eligible for visionary points when the gameweek starts. However, this does mean that visionary points will only take effect from gameweek two.

The players who are eligible for visionary points will change every gameweek as other managers put them in your squad, so someone who was eligible for visionary points one gameweek may not be eligible the next gameweek, and vice versa.
