Picture the scene: it’s a week before the 2024-25 WSL season kicks off and you’re in your room staring at your phone, trying to work out how to afford Alessia Russo AND Bunny Shaw on your Fantasy WSL team without skimping on your defence. How did you get into this situation, and how are you going to get the edge on your rivals this season?
Here’s everything you need to know about player pricing in Fantasy WSL, including how they’re determined and what changes you can expect throughout the season.
How are player prices decided in Fantasy WSL at the beginning of the season?
Whether you agree or disagree with the prices of the players in Fantasy WSL, there is a method to the madness.
We use a complex formula to determine how much each player will cost at the start of the season, which is partially based on how well they performed last season and how many Fantasy WSL managers had them in their squads. So even if a player didn’t score well last season, but was selected by 50% of people, you can expect them to be at a premium price this season.
Another factor that plays into the cost of a player is the team that they play for. Strikers from Manchester City and Chelsea are going to be a lot more expensive than strikers from West Ham and Crystal Palace, given that they are much more likely to score or assist.
For players that are new to the WSL this season, prices are calculated based on the team they play for, and how they have historically performed in other leagues. So if you’re eyeing up Lucy Bronze for this season, then be prepared to fork out.
How do player prices change throughout the season in Fantasy WSL?
Price changes are solely dependent on the number of managers who are selecting a player for their squad. If a player’s selection rate goes up, so does their price. Similarly, the opposite happens if managers trade them out for other players.
Each week Fantasy WSL will post the risers and fallers on social media, so you can see who’s on the upward trend (or not!). If you’re still stuck on how to navigate the transfer market, we’ve got an in-depth guide to price changes here.
Are there any restrictions on player pricing in Fantasy WSL?
In short, yes. As the cost of living crisis shows, unrestricted price inflation is bad for everyone. There is a cap on how pricey the most expensive player can be, and similarly, no player will ever be worth less than 4.0m (of course, in our eyes, they’re all priceless).
There are also initial price bands based on position, so you know roughly what to expect for each one. These are:
GKP: 4.0m-5.5m
DEF: 4.0m-8.5m
MID: 4.5m- 10.0m
FWD: 4.5m-12.5m
